This article is part of my Game Analysis Project, where I look at the various games I've played, and break down what I like about them, what I don't, and what the game does to make itself fun.

Play Experience

Altoholic tells me I have nearly 60 days played between 14 characters spread between four realms.

My Characters

Maelirl - lvl 80 Draenei Disc Priest

At the time of my quitting, Maelirl was my main. I got her to 80 in February and raided Nax 25 all through March and April. I left in May due to crappy guild leadership and most of my friends in the guild also quitting.

I leveled Maelirl as a hybrid, with a pimped out wand up to 40 at which point I respeced shadow and stayed that way till I got to about 60, where I resepced disc and leveld through instance runs as much as possible from that point on. I was able to get a bunch of my friends with 80s to help me burn through the content quickly, as I wanted to see end game raid with this char.

Jokulhlaup - lvl 71 Orc Demo Warlock

I leveled Jok mostly as affliction, switching to Demo at some point in my 60s as I farmed gear so that I could try to get into raids. I ended up dropping him in favour of Mael when my friends said they'd help power level/gear me on their server while waiting for WotLK to come out.

Pellanor - lvl 37 BE BM Hunter

Pellanor was started on a new server shortly after the release of BC. He was part of a team of five BEs that ran together once a week, mowing through early level dungeons with ease. Probably my favourite character, he switched over to PvP when scheduling issues prevented the other players from being able to make it and I didn't want to gain levels ahead of them.

Alyndrane, Alyndrane & Gundigoot - Bank Alts / AH Monkeys

My bank alts on the three different servers I played with any regularity. I was able to aquire 1k gold on Alyndrane on the new server with Pellanor. I definitely enjoyed playing the AH to make some extra cash, but found that once I got a higher level character it was easier to just farm for gold rather than mess around on the AH. I was just starting to get on an AH kick again right before the guild issues caused me to lose interest in the game.

The Good

Raiding and Instances!

I'm a big fan of cooperative competition. I like working with a team of others to wards a common goal. I like being better at this than most. Instances and Raid were a lot of fun for me. Unfortunately not everybody shared my same attitude, and I hate having to try to drag along others who aren't pulling their weight, which ultimately ended up being a large factor in me leaving the game.

Theorycrafting!

I have a love/hate relationship with theorycraft. I enjoy analyzing the game mechanics and making good educated decisions when it comes to gear. I like making a list of the best gear for my character, and then working toward acquiring it.

The Bad

Theorycrafting!

Theorycrafting is like a meta game. It's an external source of fun based on the game. However being external it has some drawbacks. It reduces immersion within the world when you're analyzing the mechanics of the system rather than enjoying the environment.
