The Megaversal Legion adventure is a higher powered game focused on a special squad of the Megaversal Legion who gets cut off behind enemy lines while on a scouting mission in the South American Jungle.

For this game I'm trying to put an emphasis on the cool stuff that the different characters can do within the RIFTS system, while reducing the emphasis on the clunky combat system. Unfortunately I haven't been able to streamline character creation very much, so it'll still take a while to put characters together, however once that's done things should run quite smoothly.

As a GM I'm going to be working on saying Yes as well as my improvisation skills, and my ability to run a game where the PCs are dumped in a situation where they have to figure out what's going on, something which ended poorly the last time I tried :'(

I would like the players to work on Building characters as a Group and creating some interesting party dynamics. As well I'd like to see people try new types of characters. For example if you usually play a introverted speedy character, try a boisterous demo-man. Or perhaps you usually play dark outcasts who are really good guys at heart, perhaps a optimistic kid that just kinda fits in would be a different change. Of course if you've already tried something and didn't like it, there's no need to try that again, but if you can think of something new and exciting, give it a shot.

We have a collection of Rifts books and PDFs over at Geek Hause which you are free to browse. For this game in particular, it would be of use to read the section on the Megaversal Legion in South America 2.

Session Summaries

Oct 3rd

Matthew, Krystle, Zeek, ???(Hey Catt, what's the name of your character again?) met each other and Sergeant Griff for the first time as they were placed in a new special skills squad. They had little time to get to know each other before an assignment came in. They had orders to go on a ground patrol with their Regiment to investigate a misty valley withing Megaversal territory, where some neo-apaches on patrol had encountered some strange flying creatures.

While entering the valley the regiment was decimated by a ley line storm. Most were either destroyed, or cut off outside of the valley. When their APC emerged from the storm in the valley, it was seen that the mist had lifted revealing a number of scattered buildings, including a large pyramid, constructed in the jungle. While ??? went about getting the APC back in a running condition, Sarge flew ahead to help the survivors of a downed copter. In the mean time Matt went on patrol in the area and came across a few lightly armoured troopers, armed with particle beam cannons. These troopers weren't all that organized and were quickly taken out, with two being taken captive. They were able to provide very limited information about the situation, simply stating that they had been ordered to go on patrol and shoot any intruders.

As the interrogations were taking place Sarge radioed in requesting support, as he had encountered a Juicer piloted Icarus Flight System, as well as some fire from the ground. Matt and Zeek quickly took off to a position where they could lure the IFS into their range of fire. As they opened fire the juicer was able to dodge the incoming mortar shell, but flew right into Zeek's mystic blast, which severely damaged his wing, and caused him to flee back to the structures at the centre of the valley.

As they relocated their APC to a new location, the PCs stumbled across another thrashed APC of which Akrhan was the lone survivor. They then sought out another patrol to ambush. This time it was nine troopers and a female tattooed warrior. A short firefight ensued in which five of the troopers and the tattooed warriors were taken captive and questioned. Few more details were discovered, other than that the troopers and tattooed warriors were all slaves.

Whoever before they were taken the slaves had radioed in that they were under attack and three large units were seen moving to encircle the PCs. Krystle flew in to scout and cause a distraction while the others prepared a volley of four medium ranged fragmentation missiles. These missiles wiped out all of the squad except for one Mystic Knight and one T-Warrior, who were easily taken captive.

When questioned the Mystic Knight actually seemed to have a decent idea of what was going on. They had been hired to watch over the Slaves and to guard the pyramid and surrounding structures. They had been here for a few months and were nearing the end of their contract. In addition he was able to provide the general distribution of forces (just over 100 slave troopers, two dozen t-warriors, a half dozen mystic knights, a dwarven mechanic, four juicers [2 hyperion, 1 scout, 1 titan] and the four who had hired them all [1 mage, 1 assassin, 1 with a Rune Sword and 1 with a mean looking power armour]). Further negotiations then took place, and the mystic knights were convinced to switch their employ to the Megaversal Legion, along with the slaves being granted their freedom. However the Juicers and the four who were running the show, along with all the slaves at the pyramids, still need to be dealt with. A meeting has been arranged with some of those in charge to negotiate a possible cease fire.
